Will Online Poker Become Legal?

May 12, 2009 - Written By Bonnie

capitol hillPoker players all over the world await a decision on the newly introduced bill that could very well end the 3 year ban on legal online poker. Last week Representative Barney Frank, along with other government officials that support the legalization of online gambling, presented what is being called  The Internet Gambling Regulation Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009. This bill actually hands exclusive authority to the Department of Treasury , making them in charge of enforcing regulations and to license Internet gambling operators. Department of  Treasury will have the ability to issue reviews of how each and every operation is run. Those who are not willing to comply with the U.S. jurisdiction will be dealt with as The Department of Treasury deems necessary which could include fines, license revocation, and or imprisonment.

Frank has put forth an unbelievable amount of time and effort to bring notice to the benefits that legal online gambling can contribute to our struggling economy but his work in this area has all to often gone unnoticed. This go round Frank has support from other government officials who believe that consumers should have a say so in how they spend their hard earned cash as well as what form of entertainment leisure time is spent.

Frank, along with poker players all over the world sit and wait for a decision that could very well change the online USA Poker industry and help our much needed struggling economy as well. If giving government officials another way to tax people and full authority on how the operation is run is not enough to push this bill through, our economy may be in bigger trouble than we realize.
