Upcoming WSOP Makes Online Poker Rooms Stir

May 19, 2009 - Written By Glen

The end of May not only ushers in the full force of summer, but also signifies the final hours before the World Series of Poker. The most popular event in the poker world will be making its annual trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, bringing along with it a spark of hope. Online poker rooms are offering tournaments over the web to create sponsorship opportunities for their players.

Online poker tournaments offering World Series Of Poker seats enable a good player who does not have the funds to go to the series. An example of this was then-rookie Chris Moneymaker. An accountant from Georgia won a seat at the WSOP by entering a tournament in which the prize was said seat through Poker Stars online poker room. Long story short, he turned $40 dollars into $2.5 million.

With revenue in a continued slump, the World Series of Poker could not come quick enough. While thousands are expected to make the pilgrimage to Vegas, the declining economy has caused some concern amongst the inner circles of the business owners in Las Vegas. The turn out may be lower than preceding years due to the failing dollar. No matter the result, any little bit is expected to help.

Though Moneymaker is the most well known of all online poker players turned pro, it is a possibility for any one who shows talent in the online poker rooms. Being that some tournaments online can hold thousands of players, the odds are not necessarily in your favor. The buy-in on these tournaments is relatively low, between 30 and 100 dollars, allowing players of all economic levels a shot at glory. Still, there needs to be a winner - what's to say it can't be you?
