June 15, 2009 - Written By Bonnie

Congratulations to Thomas Alenius who was named the winner of event 26 of the 2009 WSOP. The Limit Hold' Em tournament had a buy in of $1500 and brought out 643 components. Among those players was our champion Alenius who had recently won a previous tournament , making event 26 his second cash win of the summer but his first WSOP gold bracelet win. This tournament proved to be a challenging one. After two long days of play, 15 players returned for the final day and their shot at the gold gold bracelet.

Al Barbieri started day three as chip leader. The 15 remaining players were quickly reduced to 6 after just two levels of play. Barbieri maintained his position with over 1.2 million in chips with the next closest opponent sitting at nearly 465,000 in chips. Barbeiri, Alenius, and Jason Tam made up the final three and Tam started that hand with a chip lead of 3-1. With a few good hands and a large amount of chips in the pot, things quickly changed in favor of Alenius. In not time at all the heads to head challenge came down to Alenius and Tam. Although Tam put up quite a fight, it was no match for what Alenius was holding. Alenuis was left the last man standing and took home the title winner, a cash prize of $197,488 and a gold bracelet.
