Angel Guillen Wins Event 32 of 2009 WSOP

June 18, 2009 - Written By Bonnie

Only a weeks time has past since Angel Guillen went up against Kevin Stammen in the No Limit Hold ' em Tournament, placing 2nd and just shy of his first WSOP gold bracelet. Trying time and time again, Guillen seems to always hang in there to the final stages of the tournaments and then get out played by someone more determined to carry home that shinny gold bracelet. Guillen made  another attempt at capturing his bracelet when going up against 1533 opponents in event 32 of the 2009 WSOP, the No Limit Hold 'Em Tournament. With this event only requiring a small buy in of $2000,  it brought out a large number of hopefuls all with the same determination as Guillen, to capture the title and take home a first WSOP bracelet.

Guillen appeared to be on the right track as he cruised through day one and two of the tournament , knocking out players and getting one step closer to the final table. Making it to the final table was a challenge all of its own and the head to head match up against professional poker player Mika Paasonen would only make for a long night of poker playing. Mika Paasonen entered the final table as chip leader and held that position into the early stages of the final match up against Guillen. Chip lead would go back and forth several times among the two opponents with each player picking up large pots at times that were crucial. The determination of Guillen placed Paasonen in an all in hand on more than one round and in the end it was Guillen who walked away winner of the entire tournament.

Guillen will walk away with a cash prize of $530,548, the title of Champion of event 32 and most importantly, wearing his first WSOP gold bracelet. Persistence sure did pay off for Guillen in this case. Only a week after having that bracelet within his reach and watching Stammen walk away with it, he certainly has earned himself bragging rights for his accomplishment.
