NBC's New Poker Show "Face the Ace" Debuts in August

Poker News - July 28th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

NBC is teaming up with Full Tilt Poker to have its first ever prime time poker show when "Face the Ace" debuts on August 1st. The show is scheduled to air at 9pm on Saturdays and has seven shows scheduled for its inaugural season. The concept of the show is quite unique and is the first poker show of this type to air on television. A contestant will choose from among four doors with a Full Tilt poker professional behind each door. The player will then play whichever pro poker player was behind the door in a heads up poker match. If he beats the poker pro, or the "Ace" as they call it, he will have the choice to take home $40,000 or chance it and play another "Ace" for a chance at a bigger payout.

If the player chooses to continue with the game, the $40,000 will be lost and he will choose another door to select his second opponent. The second heads up poker match will be worth $200,000 for the contestant. If the player manages to win again, the same rules apply after the second round. The player will have the choice of stopping the game and taking home the $200,000, or they can move on to the third and final round. The player will once again choose another door and if they can beat the "Ace" for a third straight time they will take home a cool $1,000,000.

"Face the Ace" has the makings of being a really interesting poker show unlike any other poker programming ever seen. Their will be fifteen different poker pros or "Aces" rotating through the seven different scheduled episodes. All are Full Tilt Poker professionals and collectively are some of the toughest players in the world. The poker pros featured are Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Allen Cunningham, Mike Matusow, Erick Lindgren, Chris Ferguson, Gus Hansen, Phil Gordon, Jennifer Harmon, John Juanda, Howard Lederer, Huck Seed, Andy Bloch, Erik Seidel, and Gavin Smith. Whenever one of these poker pros beats the contestant, $10,000 will be donated to a charity of their choice.
