Will Delaware Sports Betting Law Mean Less Online Gambling?

May 11, 2009 - Written by Haley

Although the majority of underground sports betting has been shifted to the Internet, almost all sports fans know where they can find a bookie that will be interested in taking their bets. The Bill to legalize sports betting, which seemed dead a few days ago, now looks like it could be passed. Lawmakers in the state of Delaware are looking forward to the bill, because hopefully it will cut down on illegal sports gambling.

If the bill is passed in Delaware, other states may follow, and that could mean the end of all illegal gambling operations. If Delaware leagalizes sports online gambling, it's not going to completely demolish existing sports gambling operations, but it's a start. It's a great possibility that the legalization of sports gambling in Delaware may lead to other states following, and if it works in Delaware, the possibilities are higher. State officials are looking for any way to generate revenue to help with the budget crisis the state has been in. If sports betting is profitable, it will spread throughout the country. Once other states realize the revenue coming in from sports betting, it will be a clear fact that it's worth it to legalize online sports gambling.

Delaware's version of sports betting proposal is much different than what most gamblers are offered by their bookies. Delaware will only allow betters to place parlay bets, in which two or more teams have to be chosen, and all teams that are picked must win. Although the start of online gambling will start off small, as soon as they realize how much money is being made, they wont plan on turning back.
