Arizona Legislature Seeks To Dissolve Indian Gambling Monopoly

May 21, 2009 - Written by Glen

arizonaIn the near future, dog and horse racing tracks may begin to spring up around Arizona. That is the requirement to run a casino in Arizona according to the new plan that is being tossed around the Legislature. Andy Tobin, a House Majority Whip, has been promoting this new plan because he wants to bring to an end the monopoly Native Americans hold over casino gambling in the state. It was his idea that racetracks be allowed to hose blackjack, poker, and slots.

According to Tobin, Arizona is "billions of dollars in the hole". This is a recurring concept in the States, and legalized gambling has become a possibility, and indeed a reality, in many states as deficits continue to rise. Lawmakers are augmenting casino gambling options all over the country, creating casinos where they have never been before or improving the ones already operating.

Unfortunately, there has been some serious opposition to the proposed gambling increase. House Speaker Kirk Adams stated that he has "serious concerns about any expansion of gambling". While Adams is a Republican, a democrat, David Lujan, is also wildly opposed to any gambling expansion and has claimed to be "skeptical".
