Online Gambling Versus Land Based Gambling Debate In Kentucky

June 5th, 2009 - Written by Glen

kentuckyOutsourcing is considered a nuisance by many people in the United States. In a sense, online gambling is outsourcing. Governor Steve Beshear wants to halt online gambling within Kentucky, and place more emphasis on land gambling. Gambling options are currently limited in the state, and the goal is to alleviate that problem through expansion. Debate continues as Legislators try to break the indecision.

Beshear called a special session on Wednesday to throw the State's declining financial situation to the forefront. Originally, the casino gambling concept had not come up. Wednesday had nothing to do with gambling. It was not until Thursday, when the session reconvened, that Beshear decided to speak his mind on the situation.

Flip flopping is a sad reality in politics, and some pundits, as well as the other legislatures, have pointed this accusation at Beshear. Those who do not like the idea of his gambling expansion have grown moderately resentful that Beshear has pushed to have legislature decide on the issue. The flip-flop comes in to play when you consider that Beshear had originally said he wanted the residents to vote on the changes.

Though the session will likely include discussion over gambling, it is not probable that talks will lead to casinos at the state's racetracks. Too many lawmakers are opposed to the expansion, causing too much of a rift between interests.
