Baseball Takes Focus of Sports Betting

June 16, 2009 - Written by Glen

Out of the four major sports, only baseball remains in season. Football has not yet arrived, Basketball's post season has just come to an end, and the Stanley Cup Finals were preceded the NBA's Finals. For the rest of the summer until that first kickoff, MLB betting will be the cornerstone of all sportsbooks.

Baseball holds the smallest portion of sports gamblers, for various reasons. Baseball remains one of the slowest sports, typically bringing less action than the full contact sports. Most baseball fans are die hard fans - there is little grey area. Baseball is also one of the harder sports to monitor and control, speaking from a gambler's standpoint. It can prove very difficult trying to keep track of the statistics and consistency bettors need in order to place the right wager.

Gamblers will flock to MLB betting if only because they do not currently have another option. The action lies in baseball, and only baseball, until September. The alleged boredom might garner some bets, but most bettors will be conserving their gambling budget for the NFL season.

Being that most sports bettors have been following the NHL and NBA, they will need to refocus attention on the MLB. This will add to the confounding confusion they might already have on the sport, and its betting lines in particular, but surely some players will still be making bets. Slightly under three months need to pass before the next football season kicks up, and major fans and sports bettors alike are impatiently waiting.
