Governor's Campaign Bound To Gambling Platform

Gambling News - February 12th, 2010 - Written By Glen

alabama govenorFor months on end, the issue of legal and illegal gambling had been ravaging Alabama. Raids against the bingo halls have all but crippled the industry, leaving many of these casinos hobbled, employees out of work, and capital investments all for naught. With Governor Riley spearheading this crusade against gambling, the issue over legal or illegal gambling is bound to his 2010 campaign, and could make or break his reelection.

Due to the misadventures of the Governor's task force on illegal gambling, local economy had been severely impacted. Those municipalities who relied on the bingo casinos, such as Country Crossing, to employ an entire range of workers, be it technicians for machines or even chefs, have watched as unemployment rates continued to climb. In a state where unemployment had already broken double digits, this imposition brought on by the task force was bound to hurt Governor Riley's future platform.

Alabama is currently one of the few states seeking to regress on gambling laws. While many states, particularly Ohio, Alabama, Maine, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, have all been actively making steps toward the expansion of gambling within their boundaries, Alabama's current regime remains steadfast in their determination to keep bingo out of the state. Unfortunately for those who would rather see the gambling expanded, taxed, and regulated, the courts have recently sided with Riley and his efforts.

One Democratic Candidate, Ron Sparks, has announced that he will run for Governor. He has spoken out and condemned Riley's decision to persecute gambling within the state, and may work toward expanding gambling, bingo and beyond, if he manages to become elected.

Currently, Alabama Online Gambling is the only choice within the state.
