Casino Robberies Run Rampant In First Month Of 2010

Casino News - January 20th, 2010 - Written By Glen

hand cuffsSince the earliest days of 2010, casino robberies had been occurring on a near daily basis. Though not always successful, indeed unanswered for, these thefts are giving opponents to casino expansion around the nation a cause to complain.

Perhaps the worst week so far was the week of January 11th. In just two days time, three different robberies had struck casinos in Reno, Nevada. One man had allegedly perpetrated two of these robberies. John Leonard Amaral, 48, had reportedly pretended to have a weapon upon entering two different casinos, advancing the cashier's cage, and absconding with an undisclosed amount of funds. The other perpetrator was, allegedly, Sharon Bernie Ross, 47. Both suspects were apprehended and neither robbery resulted in injury.

A more violent string of robberies occurred in Washington. Beginning their string of armed burglaries in October, a pair of African American males were apprehended after a robbery against the Silver Dollar Casino. In the robbery of the Silver Dollar, two men held up the casino cashier with a shotgun and a pair of pistols. No shots were fired, nor was anyone injured, but the burglars had, in earlier crimes, fired off at least one round. Their January robbery was the heist that had led to their arrest.

The month had also proven a strong month for Justice, as there had been a sentencing over an older crime as well as arrests made for the recent infractions of the law. In 2004, a man, Tyrone Daniels, had gained illegal entrance to the Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City. An employee, friend, and co-conspirator to Daniels had stolen an access card and prepared the bag of cash for Daniels. Margaret Robertson, the employee, had plead guilty and testified against her former compatriot.

Daniels was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his crime against the casino.

While these sort of criminal activities do have harsh fall out for land based casino expansion, trusted online casinos never have to worry about such barbaric assaults. Since Internet security is being heightened, particularly amongst Online Casinos, fraud and danger are not realities through these gaming centers.
