NFL Week 3 Match Up: Peyton Manning And Colts Giving 5 1/2 Points To Broncos
September 23rd, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos meet in week three of the 2010 NFL Season, with both coming off convincing wins a week ago.  For the Colts, it was a rebound-win against the New York Giants on Sunday night in a walk-away 38-14.  For the Broncos, it was the first win of the year at the hands of a 31-14 triumph over Seattle.  Now, both teams look ahead to continue the momentum coming into this match up.

It was big brother Peyton Manning who got the better of his little brother Eli in the Manning Bowl II on Sunday night, with the elder throwing for 255 yards and three touchdowns in a game that was out of reach by halftime.  A week after losing for the first time ever to the Houston Texans, the Colts seemed to restore order in the NFL after talks had begun that this might be the year the Colts struggle to make the playoffs.  Indianapolis has won 12 or more games in seven-straight seasons, a NFL record.

On the other sideline, the Broncos thrashed Seattle 31-14, behind solid play from quarterback Kyle Orton and running back Knowshon Moreno.  While Moreno only rushed for 51 yards and one touchdown, he also caught four passes for 67 yards.  The defense stepped up as well, holding Seattle to zero points in the first half, and at one point led 31-7 before the Seahawks scored a meaningless touchdown with under six minutes remaining in the game.

Against Indianapolis this week, the Broncos are likely to get a better offensive effort from Manning, and company.  Wide receiver Reggie Wayne and tight end Dallas Clark were each recipients of a touchdown pass from Manning, who continued to spread the ball around.  The Colts have plenty of weapons on offense, which will give the Denver defense trouble.  The Broncos must pinpoint a facet of the Colts offense to slow down and contain, as it is tough to completely shut them down.

Offensively for the Colts, Manning noted the productivity of the run game against the Giants as a key to opening up the pass game.  If running backs Joesph Addai and Donald Brown can continue the type of production exhibited against New York, that is bad news for any defense playing Indianapolis.  Indianapolis rushed for 160 yards and added a Brown touchdown.

For Denver on offense, Orton came on strong last week, throwing for over 300 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.  That, is a type of performance that Bronco fans would like to see more of.  Combine that with Moreno in the backfield and the Broncos are tough to stop.  Against the Colts defense, the offensive line protection will be key as defensive end Dwight Freeney would love to wreak havoc on Orton all afternoon long.

Defensively for the Colts, it will be about getting after Orton, and containing Moreno.  The two ends for the Colts in Freeney and Robert Mathis are among the best in the NFL, and can do some damage to offensive lineman and quarterbacks.
