NFL Week 3 Match Ups: Philadelphia Eagles A Road Favorite Over Jacksonville Jaguars
September 21st, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars square up in Week three of the 2010 NFL Season. The Eagles are coming off their first win of the season behind quarterback Michael Vick’s first start since 2006 in place of injured starter Kevin Kolb, while the Jaguars were blown away in a loss to the San Diego Chargers.

Philadelphia went on the road to Detroit with Vick and came away with a 35-32 win, which opened the door for some controversy as to who will start  this one against Jacksonville.  Head coach Andy Reid, along with Vick, said that the is no question as to who will start however, and that is Kevin Kolb if he is able to go.  Kolb was sidelined in the first week of the year due to a concussion, and sat out the Detroit game.  In his place, Vick shined, throwing two touchdowns and no interceptions.

On the other sideline, not much went right for the Jaguars in their 38-13 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.  Thanks to six turnovers, it was not even a contest.  Quarterback David Garrard and running back Maurice Jone-Drew were unable to get anything going on offense, and the defense was unable to stop Phillip Rivers and company.

Looking ahead at this match up for the Jaguars on offense, any sort of productivity and the limiting of turnovers and mistakes will be a drastic improvement from Week 2.  Jacksonville turned it over so much that they were unable to develop any sort of rhythm, and get Jones-Drew going.  Look for Jacksonville to try and get Jones-Drew going early against the Eagles defense, to try and take the light off of Garrard until he settles into the flow of the game.

For the Eagles, they know that Jacksonville is prone to turning the ball over, and Philadelphia is aggressive on defense by nature.  Bet that defensive coordinator Sean McDermott will have plenty of blitz packages and coverages to try and create some mistakes.

For the Eagles on offense Reid said that Kolb will start, but Vick will see more playing time given the fact that he has played well in relief of Kolb.  Rather than five or six plays, Reid said that Vick will appear in twice as many packages which means that the Jaguars defense will have to account for that.

Jacksonville’s assignments on defense may be doubled with the fact that will have to prepare for Vick in addition to Kold, a factor that gives an advantage to Philadelphia every week, now that Vick has shown that he is coming back into old form.

USA Online Sportsbooks and NFL Weekly Betting Lines have set the Eagles as a three-point betting favorite on the road this week to go into Jacksonville and get a win.  The over/under for the game has been set at 44 1/2 points.
