Denver Broncos Bounce Back In Week 2, Run Over Seattle Seahawks

September 19th, 2010-  By Alex Groberman

In the best bounce-back performance that any Week 1 loser could hope for, the Denver Broncos defeated the Seattle Seahawks 31-14 on Sunday.

Broncos quarterback, Kyle Orton, threw for 307 yards and two touchdown passes in his best performance thus far in this young season. He got a lot of help from his receiving group along the way by way of eight catches for 97 yards and a touchdown from Demaryius Thomas, and a touchdown reception from Eddie Royal.

Thomas’ performance was particularly impressive considering the doubts surrounding the Georgia Tech star who was at one point point considered ill-equipped to play in the NFL. Nevertheless, standing tall at 6’3 and 230 pounds Thomas clearly has the natural gifts that warranted him going ahead of the much-hyped Dez Bryant this summer.

The Broncos led 17-0 at the end of the first half after a dominating performance by their defense by way of threetakeaways, and a Matt Prater 20-yard field goal to end the half.

Meanwhile, Seattle who was looking to build off an impressive romp against the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 1 game came back with a completely lackluster effort against the Broncos. Quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck was intercepted three times and held to 233 yards on a 20-35 performance. If not for a 20-yard scoring run and an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ben Obomanu, Seattle would have looked completely hapless in Week 2. The Seahawks finished the game with four turnovers on the day.

The win gave Denver their 11th straight home opener victory, and a 24-3 record in home openers since 1984.

USA Online Sportsbooks and NFL Weekly Betting Lines favored the broncos in this one by 3 1/2 points, with the over/under installed at 41 points.  Denver easily covered the spread, with the game going the under.

The Broncos will square off against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3 while the Seahawks attempt to redeem themselves and get a much-needed second victory of the season against the San Diego Chargers.
