New England Patriots A Three-point Favorite Over NY Jets In Week 2 Match Up
September 17th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

One of the most anticipated games of week two in the 2010 NFL Season takes place at the New Meadowlands Stadium between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets.  This AFC Showdown will give one of these two a leg up early in the season, as these two were the top-two betting favorites to come out of the AFC East division.

For the Patriots last week, it was a convincing win over the Cincinnati Bengals, behind solid efforts on both the offensive and defensive sides of the football.  Quarterback Tom Brady was sharp in New England’s pass-first offensive attack, as the Patriots put up 38 points.  Brady was crisp with the ball throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns to zero interceptions.

On the other side of the ball, the Jets come into week two after enduring a hard-fought loss at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.  While the defense played well, the same cannot be said for the offense, as they continued to struggle in a spillover effect from the preseason.  Quarterback Mark Sanchez and company failed to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball, and as a result, New York begins the season 0-1, and now must face a good New England team in Week two.

Looking ahead at this match up on offense for the Jets, they are going to have to find a way to move the ball and put it in the end zone.  Running back Shonn Greene did not have a very good Week One debut, fumbling, and failing to break through into the second tier of the Ravens defense.  Against the Patriots, Greene will have to get past the front four and into the linebackers to create a run game for New York.  Doing this will take the pressure off their young quarterback and free him up to make plays down the field with his arm.

For the Patriots on defense, you can bet they reviewed how Baltimore stopped them.  The Patriots may not have as many play makers on defense as Baltimore, but they have enough talent to stop New York.  Look for the Patriots to put the game on Sanchez’ shoulders and try and stop Greene.

For New England on offense, if they can carry over the performance from last week, they will be just fine.  On the outside at the receiver position, a huge match up between Patriot receiver Randy Moss and Jet defensive back Darrelle Revis.  Both, are tops at their respective positions, and it should be a great match up to watch.

USA Online Sportsbooks and NFL Weekly Betting Lines have set the Patriots as a three-point favorite in this one, with the over/under resting at 38 points.

NFL recent betting trends indicate that the under is 7-2 for New England in their last nine road games.  Additionally, the Jets are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games.
