NFL Week 2 Matchup: Pete Carroll & Seahawks Underdogs On Road At Denver Broncos

September 15th, 2010 – by Alex

The Denver Broncos (0-1) will try to bounce back from a disappointing Week 1 loss in their first home game of the 2010-11 season against the (1-0) Seattle Seahawks.

Coming off a close first game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Broncos will look to improve offensively after not having the lead at any point in the game. Statistically, quarterback, Kyle Orton put up an impressive 295 yards through the air as well as a touchdown and an interception. Receiver, Brandon Lloyd tried to do his best Brandon Marshall impression with five catches for 117 yards and Eddie Royal chipped in eight catches for 98 yards. Running back, Knowshon Moreno put up 60 yards and a touchdown to spearhead the Broncos’ ground attack.

The Broncos defense had serious issues as they pretty much let Jaguars’ QB, David Garrard do whatever he wanted. He ended up with three touchdowns for the game, and the rest of the Jacksonville offense rushed for 134 yards. D.J. Williams led the team with nine tackles, while Robert Ayers had the only sack of the game for the Broncos. The special teams defensive group for the Broncos wasn’t much better as they allowed 171 in total return yards.

The Seahawks are coming off an excellent first week performance against the San Francisco 49ers. While they didn’t exactly shine offensively, the Seahawks were just efficient enough to one-up their opponents. Quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns as he made sure that eight different receivers got to touch the ball. Receiver, Mike Williams ended the day with four catches for 64 yards, while Deon Butler and Deion Branch each had a touchdown. Justin Forsett led the ground attack for the team with 43 yards on seven carries, while Julius Jones chipped in 18 yards on eight carries.

Defensively, Marcus Trufant and Jordan Babineaux both had interceptions to lead all secondaries. At the same time, Dexter Davis and Red Bryant had a sack a piece against the Niners. As a whole, the defense absolutely smashed down on the San Francisco offense and only allowed 49 yards rushing.

Game Lines: Despite losing in Week 1, the Broncos are the favorites in the eyes of oddsmakers and in the NFL Week 2 Betting Odds for this game. Currently, the line is at Broncos (-3.5) with the over/under resting at a total of 40.5 points according to Bodog Sportsbook.

ATS NFL Betting Trends: The Broncos are 2-8 against the spread in their last ten games following a loss, 8-21-1 against the spread in their last 30 games and 9-25 against the spread following a loss.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are 6-2 against the spread when playing a team with a losing record, 1-8 against the spread in their last nine road games and 1-4 against the spread following a win.

Straight Up NFL Betting Trends: Even though Seattle shocked the 49ers last week, they are just 1-4 SU in their last 5 games.

Over/Under Betting Trends: The matchup between the Broncos and Seahawks has gone to the over 5 of the last 6 games played in Denver, and 5 of the last 7 games no matter where the game has been played. Those trends definitely point to the over in this Week 2 NFL Matchup.
