College Football Previews: Notre Dame Fighting Irish Giving Four Points To Michigan Wolverines
September 9th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

Two of the most storied programs in the history of college football face off against each other on Saturday afternoon when the Michigan Wolverines and the Notre Dame Irish meet.  Both teams got a victory in the opening weekend and will look to get to 2-0 on the year and build positive momentum.

Notre Dame is under a new era with Brian Kelly, and got a win over Purdue in the opening weekend.  However, Michigan presents a little bit ore of a challenge, specifically with Wolverine quarterback Denard Robinson.  Robinson is a dual-threat player who can beat a defense with both his feet and his arm.

“They’re setting up the run obviously for him,” Kelly said. “You’re running quarterback iso. We didn’t have any of that with Marve.” He added, referring to Purdue’s quarterback.

Michigan tabbed a 30-3 win over Connecticut last weekend, as Robinson set numerous records, including totals offense and rushing yards by a quarterback.  Robinson rushed for 197 yards and one touchdown while completing 19 of 22 passes for 186 yards.

“I know there were a lot of questions about who the starting quarterback would be,” Kelly said of the Wolverine quarterback. “He’s certainly put himself in position to end that speculation. He was a dual threat, he threw the ball extremely well. … He threw it accurately, strong arm, and certainly [was] extremely elusive.”

Kelly has said that it has been difficult to prepare for Robinson because they don’t exactly have a player that fits him.

“I don’t know that you ever can prepare for Denard Robinson at the same speed that he plays,” Kelly said.

On the other side of the ball, the Irish got past Purdue in the opener, and a win over Michigan would restore a lot of faith among the Notre Dame community.  A loss however, and the struggles would continue.

The Irish are a mere 16-21 over the course of the last three seasons, including not going to a bowl game last year, refusing to accept an invitation.

USA Online Sportsbooks believe the Irish will get this win however, as they have been installed as a four-point favorite on College Football Betting Lines on Bodog Sportsbook.
