Indianapolis Colts A 2 1/2-Point Favorite On The Road Over Houston Texans
September 8th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

An AFC South match up takes place in Week One of the 2010 NFL Season when the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans face off, looking to get a win in week one.  The Texans finished their first-ever season over .500 last year, while the Colts have set the benchmark that has defined success in the regular season over the course of the last decade.

Looking ahead at this one, it is a battle of two dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL.  While Peyton Manning is the quarterback who would perhaps get the most attention in this game, it was Matt Schaub who led the NFL in passing yards a season ago.

Even with the fact that these two defenses are solid, it has all the makings for a shootout, given the talents on both offensive sidelines.  Manning is coming off his fourth MVP year, and still has Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark to throw too, not to mention up-and-comers Pierre Garcon’ and Austin Collie.  Both Garcon’ and Collie have been viable options for Manning whenever Wayne and Clark are double covered down the field.  This, combined with running back Joseph Addai, makes the Colts dangerous to any opposing defense.

Defensively for the Texans, you don’t really shut down the Colts offense, they can only hope to contain them and prevent them from executing as best as they can.  This will be helped by linebacker Brian Cushing, the defensive rookie of the year last season.  Cushing wreaks havoc for opposing offenses and is a big play-maker.  The Texans will start a rookie at corner back in Kareem Jackson.  It will be a tall task for Jackson to defend the Colts receivers in his first game.

On offense for the Texans, Schaub looks to pick up where le left off last season, throwing for a bunch of yards.  It helps that he has arguably the best receiver in all of football in Andre Johnson, and tight-end Owen Daniels.  Rookie running back Ben Tate will also look to split time in the offensive back field.  Tate is a powerful back and a good north-south runner.

USA Online Sportsbooks and NFL Weekly Betting Lines have set the Colts as a 2 1/2-point favorite to come into Houston and get a win.  The over/under  for the game is set at 47 points.
