NFL Reduces Pittsburgh Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s Suspension To Four Games
September 3rd, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The NFL has announced that Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension has been reduced from six games to four.  Following a meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Roethlisberger will now be eligible to return to the field on the October 17 game when the Steelers battle Cleveland.

The NFL issued a statement regarding the issue on Friday, saying that this reduction in suspension would hinge on a few issues, and the “reinstatement is contingent on Roethlisberger continuing to adhere to the program established by our advisors and avoiding any further violations of the personal conduct policy.”

“You have told me and the Steelers that you are committed to making better decisions,” remarked Commissioner Goodell by way of a letter to the Steeler’s quarterback. “Your actions over the past several months have been consistent with that promise and you must continue to honor that commitment.”

Roethlisberger became the first player to be suspended under the NFL’s code of conduct policy back in March when he allegedly assaulted a young college woman at a night club in Georgia.  While no charges were field, Goodell decided to suspend Roethliseberger based on his conduct, and what the evidence showed.

“Commissioner Goodell informed us today that Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension has been reduced to four games,” remarked Pittsburgh owner Art Rooney. “Ben has done a good job this summer of growing as the person that he needs to be, both on and off the field. I am confident that Ben is committed to continuing in this positive direction. As a team, our focus is now on preparing for the regular season and getting off to a good start on opening weekend.”

During his suspension, Roethlisberger will not be able to participate in practices or attend the games until he has served his full term.  During the suspension, Roethlisberger plans to work with a quarterback coach, and throw with free agent wide receivers still unsigned for this season.
