Oddsmakers Unclear On Atlanta And Miami Match Up As They Are Given Even Lines
August 25th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The Atlanta Falcons and the Miami Dolphins meet in the third game of the 2010 NFL Preseason, as both squads look to sew up their final roster spots as the conclusion of the preseason nears.  The Falcons were run out of their own dome last Thursday in a blowout loss to the New England Patriots, while the Dolphins squeaked one out over in-state rival Jacksonville.

The Falcons could find no rhythm on either the offensive of defensive side of the ball, though Matt Ryan looked pretty solid during his brief stint in the game. Atlanta will say that they presented a mere shell of what their starting secondary will look like come game one of the 2010 NFL season, but injuries right now have hurt them in the preseason for time in the games for starters.  The 28-10 loss does not inspire Atlanta fans however, who have high expectations for this squad in 2010.

On the other side of the field, the Dolphins have looked good for the most part this season.  Their offense got a huge addition in wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who will likely be the no.1 weapon for quarterback Chad Henne this season. Marshall is arguably one of the best receivers in the NFL, and fits in nicely in the offensive system for Miami.

Oddsmakers aren’t too sure on this one however, as USA Online Sportsbooks have installed the line as a pick em’, giving even odds to both.  The over/under for the contest is sitting at 38 points.

Offensively, the Falcons will look to establish the run game with the tandem of backs that they have this season, led by Michael Turner.  Turner dropped 25 pounds from tlast season to this, and will look to regain his Pro Bowl form from 2008. He will have plenty of help in Jason Snelling, Jerious Norwood and Antone Smith.

Through the air, Ryan will look to develop and grab a hold of the offensive system in Atlanta.  With receivers like Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, and Tony Gonzalez to throw to,he will be just fine.

Defensively, the Dolphins will likely crowd the box and stop the run early, but also experiment with blitz packages tosee if they can confuse Ryan,or whichever reserve quarterback that will be in for the Falcons.

On offense for the Dolphins, they will try and continue to get Henne reps to get more comfortable, and develop a chemistry with Marshall.  Henne looked great against the Jaguars, completing 11 of 14 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

The Atlanta Falcons Team Preview shows that the defense will need to stop somebody through the air, in the secondary, but they are not too concerned just yet due to injuries and resting their starters.  The rush defense up front has been solid so far, and they will get a stern test against Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.
