September 11 College Football Match Ups Could Be The Best Of Entire Season
August 25th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

College Football is mere days away, and already the second week of the 2010 schedule is turning heads with the enormous out-of-conference match ups early on the slate.  Over the course of the last couple of seasons, more and more teams are branching out of their non-conference schedules and playings ranked opponents versus “cupcakes” to open the season.  While many teams still abide by traditional thought, in that the out-of-conference games should be easy, September 11 could end up being one of the best weekends of the entire college football season.

Alabama Vs. Penn State-

The defending BCS Champion Alabama Crimson Tide will host the Penn State Nittany Lions on that Saturday night, in a SEC Vs. Big 10 match up featuring two programs rich with history and ripe with tradition.  Head coach Nick Saban has some pieces to replace, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, but returns starting quarterback Greg McElroy and 2009 Heisman Trophy Winner running back Mark Ingram on offense.

On the other side of the ball, the Nittany Lions, under head coach Joe Paterno, put together an 11-win campaign last year, finishing second in the Big 10 conference.  This will be Penn State’s second match up in three games against the SEC West, as the Nittany Lions defeated LSU in the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s day.

Oklahoma Vs. Florida State

The Seminoles and Sooners match up in week two of the college football season to begin a home-and-home series for the first time since the 2001 National Championship game.  That game was won by Oklahoma, 13-2, for the only National Title under the Bob Stoops era, despite several appearances in them.

The Seminoles are the favorite on College football betting lines to win their conference, but this will be a huge test for the team early in the year.  Oklahoma is ranked seventh in the polls, including a first-place vote in the AP Poll.  If Florida State can somehow manage to go into Norman and pull off a victory under first-year head coach Jimbo Fisher, expect to hear talk of the program back on the rise.

Miami At Ohio State-

This match up between the Hurricanes and the Buckeyes will rematch the 2003 BCS Championship game, won by Ohio State in overtime. This ACC Vs. Big 10 match up will put two of the top quarterbacks in the country, in Jacory Harris and Terrelle Pryor.  Pryor is the favorite on USA Online Sportsbooks to win the Heisman Trophy, and a solid performance against a good Miami defense will go a long way shine a bright light on him throughout the course of the rest of the season to voters.

Ohio State continues their tradition of playing difficult out-of-conference games, and as such, are gaining respect around the country.  They played Texas a few years ago,and USC last season.  The Buckeyes are the preseason second-ranked team in the land, and will have a lot of hype surrounding this one.
