Most Online Sportsbooks Consider Pre-Season Matchup Between Philadelphia Eagles And Kansas City Chiefs As A Toss Up

August 25, 2010- By Jonathan Lowell

The Philadelphia Eagles come into Arrowhead Stadium looking to avenge an embarrassing loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last week. The only player to score for the Eagles was kicker David Akers, who made all three of his field goals. After an 11-5 record last season (4-2 in the NFC East), the Eagles said goodbye to starting quarterback Donovan McNabb, and opened the door for Kevin Kolb to take the starting job.

The Chiefs looked as if they were going to win their second pre-season game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but a late touchdown from the ‘Bucs saw them leave Raymond James Stadium with a loss. With a 4-12 record last season (2-4 in the in the AFC West), the Chiefs are expecting Matt Cassel to step up and make the Chiefs competitive in 2010.

Bodog sportsbook has set neither team as betting favorite in Friday’s game, but the line has swayed to give both teams a point since the line was set. The best USA online sportsbooks have set the over/under at 37, a line that has shown no fluctuation.

Kolb completed 11 of his 17 passes against the Bengals, and totaled 126 yards on the night. Michael Vick showed his athleticism, and his future role with the squad on his feet with three carries for 34 yards. That was good enough to lead all rushers, and LeSean McCoy lead all running backs with 20 yards. The 2010 Philadelphia Eagles season preview has McCoy as the projected starter after Brian Westbrook was released by the team in the offseason. The wide receiving corps are also led by young faces, as DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin will be the two top targets for Kolb this season. Putting pressure on Kolb will be the duo of Glen Dorsey and 10-year veteran Ron Edwards. Behind them will be linebackers former Big 10 standouts Tamba Hali and Mike Vrabel. Rookie safety Eric Berry is expected to make an impact in his first year out of Tennessee.

Cassel led the team on a touchdown drive in the first quarter against the ‘Bucs. He finished the game going 14-19, with 125 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Palko looked impressive in the backup role with 106 yards, but threw two mistakes that resulted in interceptions. Jackie Battle made his case for the backup role behind 11-year veteran Thomas Jones with 59 yards on 11 carries. Dwayne Bowe and Chris Chambers are expected to start at receiver according to the 2010 Kansas City Chiefs season preview, and Dexter McCluster caught a 17-yard ball out of the backfield last week. Looking to shut down the Chiefs office will be Broderick Bunkley and Mike Patterson up front. Behind them at linebacker is new signing Ernie Simms, who is looking for a new start after coming over from the Detroit Lions. Ellis Hobbs will be patrolling the secondary along with Asante Samuel.

Akers was perfect in his last preseason game, making all three of his field goals including one from 48 yards. Ryan Succop made both of his field goals against Tampa Bay.

Early weather reports have predicted 10 mph winds out of the Southeast for Friday’s game. The high has been set at 86 degrees, and the low at 64 with no chance of precipitation.
