New York Jets To Appear on HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’

March 25th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The sixth edition of the NFL Series profiled on HBO entitled “Hardknocks” will follow the New York Jets this year.

Cameras will follow the Jets during training camp, and fans will get the chance to see the team up close and personal, listening to notoriously talkative head coach Rex Ryan.

“It’s a great thing,” Ryan remarked. “We’re going to be ourselves. We won’t hide anything. All we want to do is portray who we are and let the whole country see why I brag about our players and assistant coaches.”

“We know who we are. We don’t pretend to be anybody we’re not,” he stated. “We have a philosophy that we believe in, and it’s from top to bottom. That’s what’s going to make this show great.”

The announcement was made on Thursday, as the team stated it was selected.

“When we hired Rex last year, the openness issue became a non-issue,” said Jets owner Mike Tannenbaum. “At the end of the day, we’re working for the fans. We want to include the fans in everything we do. And by the end of this show, you’ll have a sense of knowledge and ownership in this team and these players that you’ve never had before.”

Last year, the show followed the Cincinnati Bengals through the 2009 training camp as they prepared for the NFL Season.

When putting the elements together in selecting a team for the next series, the Jets were the ideal candidates to fill the position, beginning with Ryan and continuing on down through the team.

Several key players, such as quarterback Mark Sanchez, linebacker Bart Scott, corner back Darrelle Revis and newly acquired running back LaDainian Tomlinson will showcase the show, as fan favorites.

Scott is renowned for his trash-talking on the field, and will surely provide entertainment for the viewing audience.

“I want training camp to remain pure and original,” Scott said. “I want people to behave the way they normally behave. We all have our part in expanding the game, and I understand that. But I don’t like environments that are forced.”

The series debuted back in 2001, with the Baltimore Ravens.

HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg has a special attachment to the Jets, as he has been a fan since childhood.

“I love this team, so this is pretty special,” said Greenburg. “This is the right team at the right time with the right coach and the right transparency. This is going to be a big hit.”
