New York City Adding Casino Which Will Feature 4,525 Slot Machines

With many states and cities making a push for casino and gambling expansion to increase revenue streams, it appears New York City is looking to get in on the act, following an announcement this week by Governor David Patterson and the state legislature.

Made this week, the new proposal will put 4,525 video slot machines which will be placed at Aqueduct racetrack, located in Queens.  Pending the passing of the proposal, the total amount of slot machines could be ready to go for the public by summer 2011, with construction starting as early as September.

“We’re trying to create a first-class, day-trip destination casinos, not slots in a box,” remarked Jay Walker, who is a senior consultant to Genting, the company financing the project by paying $380 million up front.

The project is gaining support as those in favor believe it could bring good things to the city area.

“There are very few opportunities like Aqueduct now or in the future,” remarked Michael Pollack, who is the director of Spectrum Gaming Group. “It’ll be the first casino in New York City. That’s enormous.”

With every gambling expansion proposal however, there is opposition to it.

This is the latest in the string of gambling expansion in the Northeast of the United Sates, as Pennsylvania Casinos added table games and will erect five new casinos, which have created over 12,000 jobs.Other states, such as Delaware, Maryland, Ohio, and Massachusetts casinos are working on gambling expansion.
