Ben Roethlisberger Gives Interview, Says Road To Redemption Long

June 11th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

For one of the first time since being implicated in a sexual assault case, Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger gave an interview in which he expressed his sincere remorse for the situation that he put himself and the team in.

While no charges were formally filed in the case, Roethlisberger was suspended by the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

“Moving forward, you have to make sure you make the right decision, and that right decision is something I’m going to have to make, when that [alcohol] situation presents itself,” Roethlisberger said in an interview with KDKA. “You can’t stop living, but you’ve got to live smart.”

“I got caught up being Big Ben the whole time. I lost track of who Ben Roethlisberger was. It’s not something I’m proud of,” he said.

Roethlisberger vowed never to return to the way he was prior to the incident ever again, and looks forward to the opportunity to prove his new self to the city of Pittsburgh and NFL fans everywhere.

“Big Ben just kept building up. It ended up coming off the field. It kept taking over. Superman kept taking over Clark Kent and you just never saw who Ben Roethlisberger was any more. At the time, I didn’t see it. I was gaining everything but I was losing a lot of who I was raised to be.”

Roethlisberger’s interview comes at a time when over 60 audio clips and video clips were released.  Some of the sound clips release highlight Roethlisberger’s accuser as saying that she was helpless to stop the quarterback from advancing on her and that he was very short-tempered.

In the interview, Roethlisberger said he owes the Steeler fans an apology as well, as Pittsburgh did not make the playoffs last season, tabbing a 9-7 record.

“I’ve wanted to apologize to them [fans] for so many things. For being immature, for being dumb, for being young, for not knowing any better,” he told WTAE. “For getting caught up in everything that was thrown my way. … In my heart, I know I haven’t been the best person, the best quarterback for the Steelers — I’m not talking just on the field, I’m talking off the field.”

The quarterback added that his family has noticed a change in him.

“My dad said to me about a month ago, ‘It’s good to have my son back,'” Roethlisberger said. “That killed me because my dad’s been my best friend. For him to say that to me really let me know I wasn’t who he raised me to be.”

“Those chapters in my life, I’ve closed that book and I’m not opening them up,” he said “It only matters what I do from here on out. That’s what I’m excited about — showing people, proving to people, fans, teammates, my family, the commissioner, everybody, who Ben Roethlisberger is. And that Ben is here to stay.”

As training camp begins in the NFL, Roethlisberger has joined his Steeler teammates.  USA Online Sportsbooks have installed Pittsburgh among the contenders to win Super Bowl XLV.

The First woman said that all Ben had to do was donate to womens abuse and tell the truth about what he did. She was not just looking for money and look how people are doing her. It is hard enough for these women to come forward. They shouldn’t having to be put through this by the bloggers. The second girl has dropped out of school. That poor innocent “southern bell”…. Ben has turned her life upside down and torn it apart. He reminds me of O.J. Simpson!!! Does the Georgia girls father have a gun?
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE’VE HEARD ABOUT RAPE IN A YEAR AND THAT PASS THE MEDIA GAVE HIM THE FIRST TIME IS WHY PEOPLE ARE THROWING HIM UNDER THIS TIME. THAT HOW SPECIAL TREATMENT CAN HURT YOU. THE POLICE WILL COVER IT UP AND HE WILL LEARN THAT HE CAN’T GET CAUGHT LIKE DID AFTER THE FIRST RAPE!! To those that say sexual assault could mean a smack on the ass. You dont get a kit and DNA test for a “slap on the ass”

WHERE IS HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell, Nancy Grace and Joy Behar have a “War On Women” campaign and rapist Ben Roethlisberger would be the perfect story but I don’t hear anything from the media on that. I HOPE SOMEBODY GOES AND PROTEST Ben Roethlisberger FOR RAPING WOMEN LIKE HE’S Pepe Le Pew!!!!! Lord knows their doing it to Vick. OVER SOME DAMN PIT BULLS. THOSE DOGS ARE BORN FIGHTERS!!! Look at the leader of 2 Superbowls for the Steelers taking Pu$$$% but Nancy Grace comes out for Tiger Woods, Kobe, Kanye West, and even Charles Barkley, but no Roethlisberger media monster to feed!! THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE’VE HEARD ABOUT RAPE IN A YEAR AND THAT PASS THE MEDIA GAVE HIM THE FIRST TIME IS WHY PEOPLE ARE THROWING HIM UNDER THIS TIME.
THE MEDIA GAVE Ben Roethlisberger ONE PASS ALREADY, SO THE FIRST WOMAN WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE BAD PRESS TO GET MORE MONEY OUT OF HIM. THATS THE OPPOSITE OF HOW THEY DID TIGER. THE MEDIA HELPED THOSE

Some of the sound clips also included the girl saying she had no idea how she was positioned when they had sex, that it lasted for 3 seconds, and she’s still trying to ‘figure things out’.
