Men Nguyen Remains Dominant Name In Seven Card Stud World Championship

June 5th, 2010 – by Glen Farmer

There were 150 entrants in the tenth event of the 2010 World Series of Poker, but only 12 remain in the quest for the bracelet in the Seven Card Stud World Championship. Though some big names had entered into the event, most had been nixed before the in the money bubble had even burst.

Of the 12 remaining, the somewhat short stacked Men “the Master” Nguyen has the most attention. Though he sits only on 302,000 chips, Nguyen may be ready to mount a come back. Five players still have less chips than “the Master.”

The current chip leader is Vladimir Schmelev, a player who has been turning heads ever since the second event of the series. Having taken second place in the 41st Annual World Series of Poker Poker Players Championship, Schmelev has been shocking the world. The bank owning amateur is regularly seen in high stakes games in Russia, but his actions in the eight game Poker Players Championship has proven his ability to be a dominant force at the tables.

Schmelev holds 921,000 chips, or just over 20% of all chips in play.

Behind Schmelev rests Sirious Jamshidi and Michael Mizrachi. Mizrachi, owner of one WSOP bracelet, earned this year in the Poker Players Championship, and 20 WSOP Cashes, could still mount a come back and once again steal a bracelet out from under Vladimir Schmelev.

Jamshidi holds 638,000 chips, while Mizrachi holds 544,000.

Eric Buchman is also in the running, holding a meager 142,000 chips. Buchman’s 10 WSOP cashes may not have ended in a bracelet, but the young poker player is hoping to add a bracelet to his record of achievements.

The shortest stack is currently held by Todd Barlow, who has 85,000 chips remaining.

The ante in Event 10 currently stands at the 17th level, with a 2,000 chip donation to the pot required by every player upon the start of the hand. The low card will have to kick in 3,000 chips, while completion will cost 10,000. With the short stacks coming close to the wire, the 10th event of the 2010 WSOP may not last much longer for many players.
