Gambling Expansion Adds Additional Lottery Choices To Pennsylvania

May 30th, 2010 – by Glen Farmer

Pennsylvania has embraced gambling as one of the most significant forms of revenue generation within the state. Though casinos and poker games are growing more rapidly than anything, the lottery remains a favorite for many players. The Pennsylvania Lottery has decided to bring back the Match 6 Lotto in order to give players a time honored rendition of lottery.

Next week, the Pennsylvania lottery will resume offering Match 6 in place of the Mix & Match game on the Monday and Thursday time slots for drawing. Match 6 tickets will resume sales on Thursday, June 1st, with the first drawing taking place on June 3rd.

In Match 6, players will pick numbers from 1 to 49. A random number generator will then select two additional sets of six, giving a total of 18 numbers. Up to four victories can be built into each ticket. In order to win the jackpot, all six winning numbers must appear on a single line. The overall odds on this jackpot are 1 in 4,661,272.

Mix & Match, the game to be replaced, will hold its final drawing on May 31st. If no jackpot is won, the jackpot will be disbursed to the winners of five of five numbers. All other prizes will be awarded as normal, with the exception of the winners who were meant to take free tickets – a $2 dollar prize will be awarded in this place.

Gambling proceeds in Pennsylvania, from both the lottery and the casinos, are distributed back to residents through the use of programs for the elderly, benefits for those in financial need, as well as property tax cuts. Unfortunately, Pennsylvania online gambling does not yet kick tax revenue to the state. Federal legislation for a regulatory body is needed in order to bring online gambling to a taxable position.
