New York Jets Excited About Upcoming 2010 NFL Season

May 18th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

Across the league, NFL teams are gathering for their first official Organized Team Activities throughout these weeks to begin their training camp process in preparation for the 2010 season.

For Darrelle Revis and the New York Jets, they have high expectations following a season in which they advanced to the AFC Championship game.  Over the off-season, the Jets added an array of free agent talent to fill voids needed, and the team remains excited.

“You could just see the looks on guys’ faces of what we’ve got and what we can be,” Revis said in a conference with The Associated Press. “We’re going to have to work hard for it, though.”

Revis said that the talk of another deep playoff run amongst analysts, and the lofty goals of the team have not derailed the focus of the organization.

There’s a lot of predictions by people and a lot of people putting us up on that pedestal, talking Super Bowl,” Revis said. “I look at it as being good and all, but we don’t want to be paper champs.”

“We have a team that should win it,” Revis remarked, “and we have to come together collectively to get the job done.”

Head coach Rex Ryan and the coaching staff held the first practice for the team this week, with minicamp just a month away.  The Jets are becoming familiar with one another at the positions that management brought in.

“There was just a lot of excitement built up with the guys we brought in and the guys we had coming back,” remarked wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery. “Everyone just wanted to go out there and see it all together at once. I don’t think we disappointed at all.”

New York brought on several prominent players such as Santonio Holmes, Antonio Cromartie and LaDainian Tomlinson.

“It’s kind of ridiculous,” Cotchery stated.. “We warmed up and you look across and you see Cromartie, and there’s Revis standing next to him. You see the young kid, Kyle Wilson, as the third corner and it’s mind-boggling. Then, you step into the huddle and you look at our wide receivers. It’s just crazy.”

Holmes was a Super Bowl MVP with the Steelers two seasons ago, but was released amidst off the field issues.  He was not without a team for long however, as the Jets jumped at the opportunity.

“My main thing is hoping that these guys want to win,” remarked Holmes. “I know what it feels like to win a Super Bowl, and I’m not sure if all those guys on the team now besides myself knows what it feels like. That’s all we have to worry about.”

“Right now, I think the sky’s the limit,” Holmes added. “Hearing Coach Rex talk about this group of receivers and our ability to make plays and pushing forward to be one of the top groups in the NFL, it’s our duty to make that happen. We don’t want it to be just a defensive team, where they get all the shine.”

As a result of the off-season moves that the organization has made, USA Online Sportsbooks have installed them among the betting favorites to win Super Bowl XLV.
