Top Players on No.1 Seeds Headline Tournament Most Outstanding Player Odds

March 16th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The madness of March has begun, and fans everywhere are scrambling to complete the 2010 NCAA Tournament Brackets, as the seeding was unveiled over the weekend.

The four No.1 seeds in Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and Syracuse all possess some of the top talent in the country, both on a team an individual level.  The top players on the college basketball landscape will be paramount for a team to achieve its ultimate goal of winning a national championship.

USA Online Sportsbooks have formulated prop bet odds on the Most Outstanding player award for the NCAA tournament.

The Kansas Jayhawks were the recipient of the top overall seed in the tournament.  Continuing with that theme, center Cole Aldrich has been installed as the overall betting favorite to collect the MOP trophy at the conclusion of the tournament, going off at 4/1.

Aldrich has been a dominant force in the middle all season long for the Jayhawks, averaging a near double-double a night with 11.2 points and 9.9 rebounds.  In addition to his production on offense, he plugs up the middle and low post for the Jayhawk defense, forcing teams to take low percentage shots from the perimeter.  If Kansas is able to navigate their way to a national title, Aldrich will be a cornerstone piece to the puzzle.

Following Aldrich in the line of betting favorites is Kentucky guard John Wall.  Wall led the second-ranked Wildcats to both the Southeastern Conference Regular season title, and tournament title.  On the year, he has average 17 points per game and four rebounds.  He has been a game-changer on the court and will play an intricate role in the success of Kentucky during the NCAA tournament.  He has been installed as a 5/1 favorite to collect the award.

The Duke Blue Devils have a dynamic duo in Kyle Singler and Jon Scheyer.  Scheyer is the quarterback on the floor for the Blue Devils, and presents a real scoring threat every time he touches the ball.  He averages 18.6 points per game, and knocked down a critical 3-pointer in Duke’s triumph over Georgia Tech in the ACC tournament final.  Singler is just behind, averaging 17.6 points per night.  The junior forward is a veteran leader on the court for Duke, and rarely turns the ball over or makes mistakes.  Scheyer has been installed with 15/1 odds to win the tournament’s MOP, while Singler is going off at 18/1.

Syracuse received the other No.1 seed in the tournament, and Wesley Johnson headlines the Orange and their chances to win the national championship.  Johnson led the team in scoring throughout the season, putting up 16 points per night, to go along with eight rebounds.  He is a dynamic player who plays hard on both sides of the court, and is able to take a game over.  Johnson has been established with 10/1 odds to claim the MOP award.
