Hollywood Casino Scheduled To Break Ground On Friday

April 28th, 2010 – by Glen Farmer

For months, the Hollywood Casino had been planned for the Kansas Speedway. The groundbreaking schedule is set for Friday, at which time the $386 million dollar casino will begin its establishment.

The massive undertaking will include a 100,000 square foot gambling floor, a racing theme stemming from the fact that the casino overlooks the Kansas Speedway.

“We’re taking the excitement and nostalgia of Hollywood and melding that with the NASCAR speedway car motif,” stated Carl Yaeger of Berger Devine Yaeger Inc., the project’s architect, according to the Kansas City Star.

In addition to the creation of jobs, payments in fees and taxes are expected to infuse money into the state’s economy. Kansas Entertainment LLC, the casino’s developer, has already paid in over a third of a million dollars to the government, totaling at $335,782 in cash for the state. This payment represents advance payments on 1 percent of the gambling revenue expected through Hollywood Casino.

In short term gains, over 1,500 construction jobs are expected to be created through the establishment of the casino. Furthermore, 1,000 full time jobs are expected after the opening of the casino.

When the casino is established, which is set for the first half of 2012, 2,300, 61 gaming tables, and 25 poker tables are meant to be installed. Food and beverage establishments are also set to be incorporated into the gaming center. Depending on the casino’s demand, a spa, convention center, retail, and a spa may be installed.

Though Kansas had legalized the land based casinos, Kansas online casinos had not been passed into regulation. Fortunately, these online casinos still continue to operate despite the lack of a regulatory body.
