Gambling Expansion Continues Through Pennsylvania, Gaming Licenses Available

April 9th, 2010 – by Glen

The state of Pennsylvania has been undergoing a period of unprecedented gambling expansion. Since the earliest days of 2010, Pennsylvania legislators had worked toward adding new choices for gambling in their state.

According to the legislation that had been introduced and subsequently approved in early January, new gambling licenses had been made available, as well as the table games that players have been asking for. Now that the licenses are available, five applicants have submitted requests for the three licenses made available.

The new licenses available are for Category 3 gaming centers. These gaming centers would be entitled to have up to 600 slot games and up to 50 table games. These would be part of hotel resorts, under the terms of the license..

Wyo Gaming, LP, Bushkill Group, Inc., Penn Harris Gaming, LP, Woodlands Fayette, LLC, and Mason-Dixon Resorts, LP are all vying for these licenses. Of the five, only three will receive their license.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will not begin perfunctory reviews of the applications to determine whether or not each applicant would be eligible. The PGCB has no time limit on how quickly they can act.

The total number of gambling centers will expand from 12 licensed, nine operation, upon the completion of the application process.

Though many gambling locations around the country have been suffering, Pennsylvania’s gambling community continues to thrive. Atlantic City has suffered due to Pennsylvania’s continued success. Some surrounding states are aiming to counteract Pennsylvania’s success by adding USA online gambling choices that would generate revenue for the state.
