Maryland Legislature Introduces Gambling Expansion For Table Games

February 5th, 2011 – by Glen Farmer

Gambling proponents in the state of Maryland had pushed for slot parlors to be introduced to the state, but for many this was not enough. Gambling enthusiasts have been pushing for table games in Maryland’s slot parlors in order to make it easier to contend with the competition from surrounding states.

Maryland lawmakers in both the House and the senate stated that table games are necessary in order to compete with surrounding states. The legislation that has been introduced would allow voters to decide in 2012 that would allow table games into the casinos. The constitutional amendment would allow poker, blackjack, craps and roulette to all be incorporated into the state’s casinos.

“The whole idea of gambling is to bring in revenue. If we’re going to compete with Delaware, we need table games because they’ve already authorized them,” stated Senator Colburn (R-37-Dorchester).

Maryland’s competition includes Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, and even New Jersey. Each state contains table games, which could potentially drag gamers from Maryland in order to break the monotony of the slot online casinos within the state.
