Ground Breaking For Cincinnati Casino Scheduled For Friday

January 29th, 2011 – by Glen Farmer

The ceremonial groundbreaking for the casino set to be built in downtown Cincinnati has been scheduled for Friday. The Broadway Commons casino site, which has been fenced off since November, will experience the ground breaking on February 4th.

Ohio’s gambling industry expanded in 2009, at which time legislation was introduced and passed that authorized four casinos in the state. The issue had been delayed repeatedly due to the bureaucratic issues, but the $400 million casino project in Cincinnati will finally move forward.

The casino is set to be build on a 20 acre site. The casino is expected to employ 1,700 people on a permanent basis when the casino opens, but also create 2,100 construction jobs. Ohio has long had a high unemployment rate, and the casino is likely to greatly aid the state in terms of job creation.

Rock Ohio Caesars LLC. is the company spearheading the casino project. Caesars Entertainment and Detroit Based Rock Gaming entered the partnership to build the Cincinnati casino. They will also head the casino planned for Downtown Cleveland.

Ohio’s casino gambling expansion marks them as one of many states that has been adding new gambling options as a source of revenue.
