World Poker Tour Southern Poker Championship Under Way

The main event at the World Poker Tour Southern Poker Championship has arrived, and players have already taken their seats to participate in the first World Poker Tour event in the new year of 2011. Having arrived at the Beau Rivage casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, the Tour has already accepted 214 players.

The first day of the event had not yet come to a conclusion, and already only 159 people remain in the running. Eric Cloutier, Joseph Cheong, Jason Mercier, Gavin Smith, Josh Arieh, Kara Scott, Scotty Nguyen, Matt Affleck, Barry Shulman, Dwyte Pilgrim, Frank Kassela, and many others had all come out to participate in the events.

Dwyte Pilgrim, Frank Kassela, Matt Affleck and Barry Shulman are amongst the big names who have already been eliminated from the event.

The event required a $9,700+$300 buy in. The number of entries has brought the prize pool to a number substantial enough to give the big winner a $584,481 prize to the main winner. The second place winner will earn a $306,607 prize, while second place will take in $212,208. Fourth and fifth place winners will also take over $100,000, while the remaining winners will take at least $18,593 for their efforts.
