Flathead County Casino Robbers Enter Not Guilty Plea

January 14th, 2011 – by Glen Farmer

According to reports, a trio of young Flathead County Residents have plead not guilty to charges that have been placed against them for their involvement in a theft that took place in a casino back in November.

Darren Hayes, 19, and Katelynne Hayes, 18, both residents of Bigfork, Montana, have been accused of conspiring with a former employee of Glacier Gold Casino, Darrah Hughes, 22, to rob the Glacier Gold Casino.

Darren and Katelynne Hayes have both plead non-guilty to felony accountability of theft. Hughes pleaded innocent of felony theft.

Dustin Payne, 16, was also arrested for his involvement in the crime, though he is being prosecuted in juvenile court.

According to Montana state law, each of the three could be faced with a sentence of no more than ten years, as well as a fine of $50,000.

The alleged robbery, as documented in court records, show that Hughes was, as the time of the theft, employed by the casino. Darren Hayes and Hughes had been dating at the time.

Authorities allege that Hughes allowed the others to enter the back room of the casino with “an object like a pistol in the sweatshirt pocket,” while stating that she could not determine the gender of the robber.

The defendants will be appearing for pre-trial on February 2nd, with actual trials scheduled for the week of March 7th.
