Italy Proving Online Gambling Regulation Can Work

December 25th, 2010 – by Glen Farmer

While some legislators in the United States feel that if online gambling is regulated, social ills will be erupt and money will not be earned. Italy is the next nation in a list of countries that has successfully regulated online gambling in order to keep underage and at risk gamblers safe from harm, as well as generate much needed revenue for the country.

An Italian mobile entertainment company, Buongiorno, has recently announced that they will work with Playtech in order to bring legalized and regulated online gambling in the form of online casinos.

Buongiorno already has more than 300 million users in its mobile content through 57 companies, and already offers online poker and bingo in Italy. Playtech will help the company bring high quality casino gaming into the country of Italy.

Italian gambling regulations have made it so online gambling companies can operate within Italy, but these gambling sites can only accept Italian residents. PokerStars is one megalithic online gambling site which has already managed a successful venture in the United States.

In the United States, many Republican legislators have made it a point to block the online gambling bill, Barney Frank’s Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act, from passing. Despite the extensive framework for consumer protection of minors, some legislators have been claiming that the social ills of gambling are too prevalent to offset the benefit of over $60 billion dollars in tax revenue over ten years.0
