Gavel Falls For Six Men Involved In Illegal Gambling Operation, Sentences Given

Sentences have been handed out to six men in Kansas City for their involvement in an illegal gambling operation that generated over $3.5 million dollars in wagers over three years.

An illegal bookmaking operation had been the subject of an investigation, and it yielded six arrests. Amongst the arrests was Gerlarmo Cammisano, a 57 year old who allegedly has ties to organized crime. Cammisano was sentenced to 14 months in prison, and was ordered to forfeit over $201,000 in cash.

Vincent Civella, 53, was also sentenced. Civella will serve eight months in prison and will also forfeit $40,000 in cash.

Michael Sansone, 31, Anthony Sansone, 28, Michael Badalucco, 27, and Charles Simone, 26, were all sentenced to a period of three years probation for their involvement in the illegal sports gambling business which had been subject to investigation.

According to prosecutors, the men took part in a scheme in which gamblers were able to contact a toll-free number to phone in wagers. Two websites were also used for placing wagers on sporting events.

The federal Wire Act of 1961 prohibits illicit sports gambling operations through the use of a telephone system. Furthermore, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act also prohibits sports gambling outside of four states, only two of which are actually utilizing it.
