Online Poker Room Adds New Security Measures Through Authenticators

December 2nd, 2010 – by Glen Farmer

The CEREUS Poker Network has announced that they will begin using authenticators, dubbed security tokens, through their two poker rooms – UltimateBet and Absolute Poker. In order to eliminate the incidence of stolen and compromised accounts, the CEREUS poker network has added these authenticators to add an extra level of security.

The authenticators are essentially a small device that creates a randomly generated code that must be entered along with your user name and password. All three sign in elements must be proffered to the poker in order to successfully sign in. Every time a player would go to log in, the security token generates a completely new code.

The security token is a small device that can be purchased through the UB store. This device, which has a button embedded on it, connects to the UB or AP server to generate the code. As long as the device remains in the possession of the user, an account can never be stolen or hijacked.

The authenticator makes it impossible to log in without all three security measures – the user name, password, and security code.

Full Tilt and PokerStars offer similar devices as well.

In online poker, security is a major issue for most players, and authenticators are meant to protect the massive investments some players have in online poker rooms.
