New Orleans Saints A Home Favorite Over Pittsburgh Steelers
October 29th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saint meet in the Sunday night match up on Halloween in a game between the last two Super Bowl Champions.  For New Orleans, they come into this one after a rather surprising defeat to the Cleveland Browns.  For Pittsburgh, they got a win on a questionable call by the referees.  The Saints will look to get back on the winning side of things, while the Steelers will try and continue their winning ways.

It was the turnovers that prevented quarterback Drew Brees and the New Orleans offense from getting much going this past sunday against Cleveland at home.  Brees threw four interceptions against the Browns last week.  That absolutely can’t happen if they expect to get a win against the Steelers this week.  The Saints have turned the ball over 14 times in their last five games, and look like a mere shell of themselves as an offensive unit from a season ago.

“We’re all in the midst of trying to put our finger on what exactly is going on,” Brees said. “We know the type of team we have. We know the type of work ethic we have. The effort is there. Guys want to win. Guys want to be great.”

On the other side of the ball, Pittsburgh’s defense is surrendering just 13 points per game, and have a plus-eight turnover margin, which is second in the NFL.

Against Miami last week, the Steelers benefited from a call by the referees that missed a fumble by quarterback BenRoethlisberger at the goal line as he fumbled in the end zone. The play was initially ruled a touchdown, though upon further review it was deemed a fumble.  From there however, the officials we unable to determine who came up with the ball at the bottom of the pile in the end zone.  As a result,  Pittsburgh was awarded the ball and kicked a game-winning field to get a 23-22 victory and vault to 5-1 on the season.

Looking ahead at this one for the Saints on offense, it’s about limiting the turnovers that have stymied drives, and put their defense in tough spots having to defend a short field.  If Brees and the offense can get things moving, they have the talent to score on any defense, even Pittsburgh’s.

For Pittsburgh, sticking to their game plan of running the ball with Rashard Mendenhall and Roethlisberger controlling the offensive back field.  Wide receiver Hines Ward’s production has increased since Roethlisberger’s return, and will present a tough match up for the New Orleans defense.
