St. Louis Rams Set as Three-Point Favorite Over Carolina Panthers
October 26th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The St. Louis Rams and Carolina Panthers meet in Week Eight of the 2010 NFL Season.  The Panthers are coming off of their first win of the season last week, defeating the San Francisco 49ers.  The Rams lost a close one to Tampa Bay, and fell under .500 by a game and look to rebound against the Panthers.

Carolina finally got in the win column this past Sunday, defeating the 49ers 23-20 on a game-winning field goal.  In that contest, quarterback Matt Moore got the start, and threw for over 300 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.  It was the effort that Carolina needed from Moore, as the run game was held in check.

On the flip-side, the Rams dropped to Tampa Bay 18-17, after they were shut out in the second half of play.  St. Louis took at 17-6 lead into the half, but came out and were ineffective.  The Rams second half play will have to improve this week against Carolina, as the Panthers have shown resilience, as was evident last week.

Looking ahead at this one on offense for the Panthers, they would love if Moore could duplicate the type of performance he had against the 49ers.  However, the duo at running back and DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart will need to improve their production from last week, as they gained just 73 yards between the two.

For the Rams on defense, shutting down the run game of Carolina will still be the key, despite of the performance that Moore had.  Moore has not shown consistency, versus the dangerous and play-making abilities of the two running backs.

St. Louis on offense was simply inept in the second half.  Bradford threw for only 126 yards, but threw two touchdowns and no interceptions.  Running back Steven Jackson rushed for 110 yards, and averaged five yards per carry.  The Rams will need to continue to get production out of Jackson to help the passing game and Bradford.  With each game, Bradford gains more experience and shows development.  The Rams are well within the picture of the NFC West.

Defensively for Carolina, shutting down Jackson will be a premium.  While Bradford has shown the ability to beat teams with his arm, he is still a rookie.  Jackson is the more consistent piece of the offensive puzzle for St. Louis, and the Panthers will need to game plan around limiting his yardage.
