No.3 Boise State Broncos A Huge Favorite Over WAC Foe Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
October 26th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The No.3 team in the land plays on Tuesday night this week, when Boise State faces Louisiana Tech.  The Broncos come into this one 6-0 on the season, and needing to win impressively throughout the rest of their schedule if they have hopes to making the BCS National Championship game, and even that might not be enough.

For the second-straight week, The Broncos were leaped by a team behind them, despite not having dropped a game.  This time, it was the Auburn Tigers out of the Southeastern Conference that vaulted into the No.1 slot over Boise State and Oregon, and the Broncos might have to get used to that occurring.

“I think the first part of the season just sets the stage for the second part and that’s what it’s all about. How do you finish?” remarked Boise State head coach Chris Petersen.

In Louisiana Tech (3-4), the Broncos strength of schedule is in no way helped.  Boise State has beaten the Bulldogs eight-straight times, with the latest a 45-35 defeat in the 2009 season.  Over the course of the last four match ups between the two, Boise State has outscored Louisiana Tech 181-41.  The Broncos have played two conference games this season, winning by a combined score of 107-0.

Boise State is solid on both sides of the ball, and while it is quarterback Kellen Moore and the offense that gets most of the attention, the defense leads the country in total defense, and is second in the nation in scoring defense, surrendering just over 12 points per game.  That is only behind TCU.

Offensively, Moore leads a corps that averages 47.5 points per game, which ranks fourth in FBS, and 523.8 yards per game, which also ranks fourth.  Moore has the top passer rating in the country and has thrown 16 touchdowns and just one interception.

On paper it is an uneven match up, as Louisiana Tech ranks 113th in FBS in defense, as they gave up 533 yards in their last outing two weeks ago against Idaho.  Still, they did manage to hold on and win 48-35.

Fortunately for the Bulldogs, the offense seems to be clicking, despite surrendering gaudy amounts of yardage.

“Everybody is more relaxed and has a better feel for the offense,” said Bulldog wide receiver Richie Casey, who caught nine passes for 117 yards against Idaho. “We’re playing like we know how. As the season goes on, you learn as you play. It’s going to continue … as long as we keep working on details.”
