Monday Night Football Betting: Odds Say Tony Romo Ready For Big Game
October 25th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross
With each passing week, the need for the Dallas Cowboys to win becomes more and more important.  Through five games, Dallas sits at 1-4 on the year, facing virtual must-win weeks for
the next few games to get back into the hunt in the division.  That could start with a win on Monday Night Football over NFC East rival New York.

“I believe in these guys, I believe in the coaching staff, I believe in Wade Phillips,” remarked Cowboys owner Jerry Jones earlier this week. “I believe we can turn things around. While the odds are against us, we can make all the things happen that we wanted to do this year.”

For the Cowboys to win, they will need to stop hurting themselves with turnovers and penalties.  Statistically, few teams in the league have moved the ball as well on offense, or stopped the ball as well on defense, ranking third and fourth respectively.  It has been the errors that have the Cowboys three games under .500 through six weeks in the season.

There have been 97 teams that have began the season 1-4 since the NFL moved to a six-team playoff format in 1990.  Of those 97 teams, only five have gone on to make the playoffs.

“We are looking forward to winning at home, playing at home, Monday night, all the great things. We can feel better about ourselves if we can beat the Giants because the Giants are really the team right at the top of our division,” head coach Wade Phillips said.

The Cowboys’ four losses this season have all been by seven points or less, with the penalties and turnovers playing critical roles in each.

But a new week presents a new opportunity, and the Cowboys have moved the ball well enough to come in confident that they can do so against the Giants.  If Phillips has his team focused on playing efficient football, there is no reason to think that they cannot win this game.

Oddsmakers believe that to be true, as NFL Betting Odds have the Cowboys as the betting favorite.

Bettors also have the options to wager on player proposition bets throughout the course of the game as well.  Betting lines that do not necessarily directly relate to the line are wagered on, such as completions, reception yards and rushing yards as an example.
