TCU Horned Frogs (-18.5) A Heavy Home Favorite Over Upset Minded Air Force Falcons

October 23rd, 2010 – by Alex

In one of the most fascinating college football games of the week, the Air Force Falcons (5-2) will take on an unexpectedly great TCU Horned Frogs (7-0) squad, currently ranked 5th, which appears to have the best passing defense in the country.

The Falcons saw their three game winning streak come to a painful finish when they lost to San Diego State 27-25 last week. Despite possessing the country’s best ranked running game spearheaded by Asher Clark’s 116 yards on 19 attempts and Tim Jefferson’s 88 yards on 15 rushes the team could not break out in their previous effort. Because of this, Air Force quarterback, Jefferson was forced to take it to the air en route to a 13-30, 175 yard performance. Normally a 50 percent passer, the over-reliance on throwing obviously made him extremely uncomfortable.

Defensively, Air Force also struggled giving up 451 yards to a San Diego State team whose time of possession was less than 25 minutes for the game. If Air Force has any shot at beating TCU this week, they will need to buckle down on this end in particular. Offensively, this is a group in a week during which they struggled still managed to put together 487 yards of total offense. Furthermore, considering the strength of their offense is the ground attack, it will be interesting to see if their rush attack works against the best passing defense in the nation.

Meanwhile, TCU is coming off an impressive 31-3 victory over BYU in their last game. The Horned Frogs accumulated 381 yards of offense on the day, mostly behind the arm of their quarterback, Andy Dalton. Dalton finished the day with a 24-for-36, 273 yard performance during which he threw two of his four touchdown passes to receiver, Josh Boyce (8 catches for 127 yards.) On the ground, the team was a bit less successful to the tune of 108 yards on 31 carries.

Defensively, as mentioned, TCU boasts the best passing defense in the nation and will no doubt bother Air Force’s somewhat inexperienced quarterback to no end. In their last game, the Horned Frogs managed to only give up 147 yards and a mere 3-out-of-14 converted third downs to their opponents.

Game Lines: Because of the obvious disparity in talent, TCU is favored by -18.5 points according to the latest College Football Betting Odds. In addition, the over/under is at a total of 48.5 points, odds courtesy of Bodog Sportsbook.

Both teams are entering this game with a 2-4 record against the spread as told by the College Football Standings.

Against The Spread Betting Trends: TCU is 23-9 ATS in their last 32 games as a home favorite and 21-9-1 ATS in their last 31 conference games. Meanwhile, Air Force is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in the previous game and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
