Tennessee Titans Favored Over Philadelphia Eagles In NFL Week 7 Match up
October 21st, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans meet in week seven of the NFL season, each coming off convincing wins in the week prior.  For the Titans, it was a dominating performance on both sides of the ball in a Monday Night Football win over Jacksonville.  For the Eagles, it was a two-touchdown win over Atlanta, that saw quarterback Kevin Kolb put together his best game this season in a relief effort for Michael Vick.

While the Eagles jumped out in front of Atlanta this past Sunday and never looked back, they will be without star receiver DeSean Jackson against the Titans. Jackson suffered a “severe” concussion after a collision with the Atlanta’s Dunta Robinson in the first half.  The collision took both players out of the game.  Jackson scored the first two touchdowns for the Eagles, but receiver Jeremy Maclin made sure that Jackson’s absence would not be missed too much.  Maclin had himself a 150-yard, two touchdown day to propel the Eagles to 4-2 on the season.

For the Titans, they also come into this match up at 4-2 on the year, but may be without starter Vince Young, who suffered a knee sprain in the 30-3 win over the Jaguars on Monday Night.  The Titans are in a tie atop the AFC South, and 1-0 in the division.

Looking ahead at this one on offense for Philadelphia, it looks as if Kolb will get the start again for the Eagles this week, with Vick still sidelined with a rib injury.  Kolb threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns against the Falcons last week, and the team is riding high on his performance.  The loss of Jackson hurts, as teams can focus on double-teaming Maclin.  Look for the Eagles and head coach Andy Reid to try and find ways to mix up the play calling and keep the Tennessee defense on their heels.

Defensively for the Titans, fewer teams played better his past weekend.  The unit allowed jsut three points and 249 total yards in the match up.  They forced four Jacksonville turnovers and ensured that the Jaguars would not have a chance at a comeback.  Look for the Titans to try and execute a similar game plan in this one, as the defense with few household names is starting to warrant attention.

On offense for the Titans, if Young is unable to go Tennessee will still be in the capable hands of back up Kerry Collins. Collins stepped in on Monday Night and completed 10 of 16 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.   The offense starts with running back Chris Johnson however, as he had a 100-plus yard performance last week and a touchdown.  Getting Johnson going in this one will be key to helping out Collins or Young.

Defensively for the Eagles, they may have to commit an extra man in the box to stop Johnson.  If they can do it without having to bring in extra personnel, it will be a win.  If not, it could be a long day for Philadelphia.  Winning the line of scrimmage will be a critical battle in this game.
