Oklahoma Sooners Atop Initial BCS Standings In College Football
October 17th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The first BCS Standings of the 2010 College Football Season have been released, and a team that has not been ranked No.1 yet this year sits now alone atop the most important poll of all.

The Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Bob Stoops are the top-ranked team in the initial BCS Standings this season, ahead of the Oregon Ducks, the current No.1 team in the human polls.

Both the Sooners and the Ducks have already notched notable victories this season.  Oklahoma blew out Florida State 47-17 back on September 11, and took care of arch-rival Texas a few weeks ago.  The quality wins, combined with the rankings in the the polls have vaulted the Sooners to the top.

For Oregon, their most notable victory came over Stanford in which the Ducks came from behind to win going away 52-31.

Following Oregon and Oklahoma is Boise State in the third position, with Auburn and TCU rounding out the top five.

Early projections last week had Boise State in the top slot, but after a week that saw the No.1 and No.5 teams lose in Ohio State and Nebraska, it opened up for other teams to slip in higher in the polls.

The Tigers have perhaps the top offensive player in all of college football in quarterback Cam Newton.  Newton and the offense put up 63 points last week in a victory over Arkansas.

TCU has given up just three points in the last three games, pitching two shutout victories.  They rank first in scoring defense and seventh in scoring offense, to form one of the most complete teams in the country.

Rounding out the top-10 in the BCS rankings is LSU as No.6, followed by Michigan State, Alabama, Utah and Ohio State.

The Buckeyes were the top team in the land before being upset by Wisconsin Saturday night.

Prior to the the loss this past weekend by the Buckeyes, they were installed as the top betting favorite to win the 2010-11 BCS National Championship on USA Online Sportsbooks.  Revised College Football Betting Odds have not been immediately made available, but will be in the coming days.
