Oregon Takes No.1 Spot In AP College Football Poll

October 17, 2010 – By Scott

Now that Week 7 in the 2010 College Football has come to an end, it was obvious that the polls were going to have a new look to them after ranked teams suffered losses. It is inevitable that the polls will never stay the same from week to week with so many top 25 matchups occurring. And now for the second week in a row, we will have a new No.1 ranked team in college football. The top 10 now looks completely different with last week’s top team going down and another top 10 team getting beat.

Previous No.1 Ohio State held on to their top spot for only one week after getting beat by Wisconsin 31-18 on the road Saturday. The Buckeyes just do not have much luck when sitting at the top of the polls and in their last 3 games as the AP No.1, Ohio State has come out on the losing end of the scoreboard.

Also, previous No. 4 Nebraska got embarrassed on Saturday by an unranked Texas squad that had fallen apart before they rebounded against the Longhorns. Nebraska, along with Ohio State, has most likely had their national championship dreams squashed. But there is still a lot of football left to play.

Now that the new polls are out, Oregon has landed at the No. 1 spot for the first time ever. The Ducks jumped up one spot from No. 2 during their bye week thanks to the loss by Ohio State. Boise State also moved up one spot to No. 2. Making a huge leap is previous No. 6 Oklahoma. The Sooners jumped up three spots to No. 3 and passed No. 4 TCU after their 52-0 beat down over Iowa State. Auburn moved up two spots to No. 5 after their win over then No. 12 Arkansas.

LSU moved up three spots to No. 6 and Alabama moved up one spot to No. 7.  Michigan State comes in at No. 8, while Utah moves into the Top 10 at No. 9.  Wisconsin made the biggest leap after their big win and jumped from 18th t No. 10.

Following you can find the complete listing of the AP top 25. The polls make up 1/3 of the formula for the BCS standings so check back with us later tonight to see the first standings after they are released.
