Taylor Martinez And Nebraska A 10-Point Favorite Over Texas At Home
October 16th, 2010- By Bryan Cross

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have looked forward to this match up with the Texas Longhorns since the last meeting between them and the Texas Longhorns since the Big XII Conference championship game a season ago.  Head coach Bo Pelini and the Cornhuskers however are downplaying the extra motivation.

“What motivations there are, as far as the fans are concerned, you can chuck those out the window when it’s time to line up and play,” Pelini said.

Pelini refers to the one second Nebraska fans believe Texas stole from them last season, that propelled the Longhorns to the national championship game.

Now however, No.5 Nebraska has reached their highest ranking since 2001, and has looked impressive on both sides of the ball behind quarterback Taylor Martinez.

“If we win a lot of games, good things will happen for us. I have confidence in that,” Pelini said. “I don’t think about it any other way, to be honest with you. If you start thinking about any of that stuff, you’re going to get humbled really quick. My only concern is Texas and what we have to do today to win the next football game.”

On the other side of the ball, Texas finds themselves in unfamiliar territory under head coach Mac Brown.  The Longhorns have already lost two games, a feat that has become rare under his direction.  Nebraska however knows that Texas still can be dangerous.

“The coaches and players over there have a lot of pride,” Pelini remarked. “They’ve won a lot of football games for a long time. They’re going to come out firing. We understand that and know that’s going to be the case. We have to be ready to match their intensity, execution and be ready to go earn it on the field because it’s not just going to happen.”

Texas has lost their last two games, and have not dropped three in a row since 1997.

For Nebraska, Martinez has been put on Heisman trophy lists across the board, having rushed for 241 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Kansas State last Thursday.

“I think they’re as good as anybody in the country right now and have a chance to win all their games and play for a national championship,” Brown remarked. “They were super on defense last year and everybody knew that, but they didn’t have the explosive plays on offense, and Taylor brings them unbelievable plays.”

Game Line

USA Online Sportsbooks and College Football Betting Lines have set Nebraska as a 10-point favorite in this one, with the over/under set at 46.5 points.
