NFL Week 5 Previews: New Orleans Installed As Touchdown Favorite Over Arizona
October 7th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

A clash between the NFC South and the NFC West takes place this week when the New Orleans Saints face the Arizona Cardinals.  For the Saints, it has been more lower-scoring affairs than a season ago, but they are winning nonetheless. For the Cardinals, it was the second time in four weeks last week, that they surrendered 41 points for an opposition.

The Saints won a close one 16-14 a week after losing a close on in over time.  Quarterback Drew Brees and the offense have had difficulty putting up as many points as the NFL had grown accustomed too.

On the other side of the ball, the Cardinals defense has continued to struggle, giving up 41 points to San Diego just weeks after giving up 41 points to the Atlanta Falcons.  Head coach Ken Whisenhut must figure out a way to stop offenses, as Brees and company possess plenty of weapons to hurt the Arizona defense.

For New Orleans on offense in this one, they have to be looking at what the Chargers did to the Cardinals last week and smiling.  New Orleans is every bit as talents on offense as San Diego, they just have not yet performed up to their standards.  Receiver Lance Moore has been a pleasant surprise, scoring touchdowns in each of the last two games.  Look for Brees to continue to spread the ball around and find weaknesses in the Cardinal defense.

Defensively the Cardinals will again have their work cut out for them just a a week after playing Phillip Rivers and the Chargers.  If Arizona does not make adjustments, it could be another long day for the Cardinal offense, that has shown that they are prone to giving up points.

For the Cardinals on offense, quarterback Derek Anderson will have to get more output and production.  Anderson was pulled last week for Max Hall, who was not effective against San Diego either.  The Cardinals must get receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston the ball.

On defense for New Orleans, look for the to try and force Anderson into making throws that force the issue in to tight spots and low percentages.  Fitzgerald warrants double coverage which is an advantage for Arizona, and the saints will need to game plan for that.
