NFL Week 5 Previews: Atlanta A Road Favorite Over Cleveland
October 5th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

The Atlanta Falcons and the Cleveland Browns face off in an inter-conference match up in week five of the 2010 NFL Season.  Both are coming off of close wins a week ago, and look to continue the momentum built as they approach the midway point of the season.  For the Falcons, it’s been three-straight wins after an opening weekend loss.  For the Browns, it was their first win of the season as they defeated AFC North rival Cincinnati.

The Falcons can consider themselves rather lucky to be 3-1 after last week’s win at home over San Francisco, as they needed heroics from receiver Roddy White.  White chased down an interception thrown by quarterback Matt Ryan with less than two minutes remaining in the game to force a fumble with the Falcons recovering.  Because of that, Atlanta was able to drive down the field and set up the game-winning Matt Bryant field goal.

On the other sideline, Cleveland is coming off a win over the Bengals in which never trailed, looking good from the start.  Carrying that performance over from one week to the next however will be the task for the Browns.

Looking ahead at this one on offense for Atlanta, running back Michael Turner has yet to perform up to expectation in three of the four weeks this season.  While Ryan has played well, getting Turner going will only help.  Receiver Roddy White, Brian Finneran and tight end Tony Gonzalez provide the Falcons will a myriad of weapons on offense, making them very dangerous to defend.

For the Browns on defense, it will be difficult for them to control all of the facets of the Atlanta offense.  Stopping Turner will likely be a key for Cleveland, though the Falcons have enough receivers and other play-makers on offense to survive.  Additionally, the run game is so deep that the Falcons can get it done with a tandem.

On offense for the Browns, Peyton Hillis has shined this season, gaining another 100-plus yards and a touchdownagainst Cincinnati.  Hillis is turning out to be a key piece to the Cleveland offense, and his success has translated into the team’s success.

For the Falcons on defense, stopping Hillis will likely be an important issue in this contest, with trying to make the Browns one dimensional. If Jake Delhomme is able to return or is Seneca Wallace keeps going, Atlanta will still focus on the run game.
