NFL Week 5 Power Rankings: Ravens, Steelers, Falcons, Jets, Saints Round out Top-5

October 5th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

Through four weeks of the 2010 NFL Season, it’s down to one unbeaten team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Say again?

Yes, the Kansas City Chiefs are  the only unbeaten team in the NFL at 3-0, after after a Bye this past Sunday.  Entering week four, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Chicago Bears were also undefeated, but both suffered losses which will cause a slight shake up in this week’s edition of the NFL Power Rankings.

1.  Baltimore Ravens –  The Ravens move up to the top spot in this week because, well frankly, it’s a bit ambiguous at this point exactly who is a clear-cut No.1.  Pittsburgh was in this position last week, and Baltimore Beat Pittsburgh looking pretty good doing it.  The defense is scary good, and the offense managed to execute a solid game-winning drive against fantastic Steelers defense. Baltimore faces Denver next week, set as a touchdown favorite according to Week 5 NFL Betting Odds.

2.  Pittsburgh Steelers –  The Steelers lost a tough one to Baltimore last week, in a hard-hitting closely contested game that saw Pittsburgh lose on the last drive.  Despite the loss, the Steelers have arguably the best defense in the league, and, with their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger finally coming back the Steelers could be poised to a run.  Pittsburgh has a Bye in Week 5.

3.  Atlanta Falcons –  They say that there is no substitute for hustle.  That was on full display late in the fourth quarter on Sunday in the Falcons game against the San Francisco 49ers.  Receiver Roddy White chased down Nate Clements and forced a fumble after Clements intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter.  As a result, Atlanta took back the ball and drove down for the game-winning field goal to win 16-14.  The Falcons face Cleveland in Week 5 and are set as a three-point favorite on USA Online Sportsbooks.

4.  New York Jets –  The Jets have looked as good as any team in the NFL the last three weeks,  capped off by a blowout win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.  New York swept the first round of the AFC East division.  Both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball look good, and the Jets get Santonio Holmes next week as he eligible to return after serving a four-game suspension.  The Jets host Minnesota on Monday Night Football, installed as a four-point favorite.

5. New Orleans Saints –  While the Saints have not looked as good on offense as they did last season, they still continue to win.  The Saints managed to notch out a close victory over Carolina this past weekend and continue to prove why they are one of the top teams in the league.  The Saints visit the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday as a touchdown favorite on the road.

6.  New England Patriots –  Tom Brady didn’t need to do much in the Patriot’s 41-14 rout of the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night.  New England set a new NFL record, becoming the only team to score a rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, return a kickoff for a score, block a field goal and return for a touchdown and return pick off a pass and return it to the end zone, all in one game.  That, it the definition of a team effort.  New England has a Bye in Week 5.

7.  Green Bay Packers –  A Week after losing to Chicago, the Packers rebounded with a win over Detroit.  Though it wasn’t the 14-point runaway that oddsmakers had predicted it could be.  Aaron Rodgers looked solid, but the Packers still don’t have much of a run game.  Charles Woodson intercepted a pass for a touchdown, as the defense continues to be productive.  Green Bay visits Washington this week, where they are set as a 2.5-point road favorite.

8.  Kansas City Chiefs –  The Chiefs had their Bye week this past week, and can now lay claim to being the only undefeated team in the NFL.  Regardless of what other perceive, that still has to count for something.  They have to travel to Indianapolis this week where the Colts will look to avoid falling to 2-3.  Despite being undefeated, the Chiefs are set as an eight-point underdog.

9.  Houston Texans –  The Texans are 3-1 after a win over Oakland on Sunday and continue to look impressive this season.  Houston leads the AFC South division and got help from Jacksonville on Sunday after the Jaguars beat the Colts, to drop Indianapolis to 0-2 in the division.  Houston will face the New York Giants this week at home, set as a three-point favorite.

10.  Indianapolis Colts –  The Colts find themselves in unfamiliar territory four games through the season, sitting at .500.  What’s more is that they are 0-2 in the AFC South division.  Still, they have Peyton Manning, and let’s remember that they are the Indianapolis Colts.  They stay in the top-10.  The Colts get undefeated Kansas City at home on Sunday, set as an asserted eight-point favorite.
